What actually helps

  • A healthy diet you can keep up
  • Regular physical activity
  • Changing the habits around eating, not just the food

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI compares your weight to your height. It is a quick screen for adults — it does not measure body fat directly and it is not meant for children, athletes or people who are pregnant.

Basal metabolic rate (BMR)

BMR is roughly how many calories your body burns at rest to keep breathing, circulating blood, producing cells, processing nutrients and holding its temperature. It accounts for about 60–75% of what most people burn in a day.
